Мы часто используем ‘one’ во избежание повторения исчисляемого существительного в единственном числе.
e.g. “Which is your daughter?” The one in the spotted dress.”
“Can you lend me a ruler?” “Sorry, I haven’t got one.”
a … one
Мы не используем неопределенный артикль ‘а’, если отсутствует прилагательное. Сравните:
e.g. I’m looking for a cottage. I’d like a small one with a garden.
I’d like one with a garden.
ONES
One имеет форму множественного числа ones.
e.g. “I’d like to try on those trousers.” “Which ones?” “The ones at the front of the window.”
Ripe apples often taste better than green ones.
“What sort of sweets do you like?” “Ones with peanuts inside.”
One(s) можно не использовать в следующих случаях: после прилагательных в превосходной степени, а также после слов – this, that, these, those, either, neither, another.
I think my mother is the best (one).
“Which (one) would you like?” “That (one) looks the nicest.”
Either (one) will suit me.
She looked at each (one) very carefully before she chose.
Let’s have another (one).
